Rain Rain Go Away?

Rain is a freshwater source and is one of the most important aspects of life! Having said that, it's almost certain to bother you if your basement leaks (or floods!) when it rains. Our basements are similar to an underground holding water tank, without the foundation walls, proper water barriers, resistance materials, and clear drainage, it will almost always allow water in at some point!

Once the water surrounds the foundation, it finds a path of least resistance to enter the basement. The very first step in solving basement water issues is to know the reason for the leakage. And remember, water will always find a path to flow, channeling it in the direction is key in creating and sustaining a dry basement.

Here are a few reasons that may cause basement water problems:

Concrete Walls and Floors - If your concrete foundation is poured, your basement is likely to have porous spots that will allow water to pass through over a period of time. Also if your basement has masonry that is porous by nature, will allow water leaks.

Mortar Joints - Your foundation is surrounded by water, this water continuously finds the path of weaker points like mortar joints & cove joints that can easily crack and make a way for water to pass.

Basement Floor Cracks - The hydrostatic pressure pushing upwards as the water table rises can form cracks in your basement floor.

Top of Foundation Wall - If your house has landscaping or decks that are sloped towards the foundation, then it will allow rainwater to enter through the gaps between foundation & the sill plate of your house.

Window Well Leaks - Basement leaks can also cause due to overflowing window wells. If your exterior drainage is not working properly the window wells will accumulate water after heavy rainfall. Also, the poorly installed window wells will allow water to pass through.

Solutions For Basement Leakage:
